My work is many things to me. Over time I have come to value the process of creating, the search for an internal spring, and the excitement of discovery. Sometimes I am drawn to the simple, every day objects like cups, bowls, and functional objects. When I work on those objects I find a deep satisfaction in the meditative quality of disciplined crafting, making the work fine, and beautiful.
I love making every pot unique, no two alike!
The sculptural ceramics I make are a very different kind of experience for me, equally valuable. I spend a long time thinking about it. As the work develops it usually shifts and recreates my vision for the finished piece. It becomes a journey of self transformation every time I am working on a new piece. I have learned that an idea is three dimensional in my process, motivating me to express the tangential aspects of the original idea. This approach allows the viewer an opportunity to find their own interpretation, the work being fluid in nature, invites the viewer to join the relationship.
My paintings are an opportunity to explore the tension between aesthetic beauty, and the human experience. I find I can be very direct and narrative in how these works develop. I am ever working towards understanding the balance of dark and light both metaphorically and actually.
